Top Gym Etiquette Rules (That No One Tells You)

We all know the basics: wipe down your equipment, don’t hog the machines, and re-rack your weights. But what about the unspoken rules of the gym? These little things make a big difference in creating a respectful, positive environment for everyone.

1. Respect the workout space. If someone is in the middle of a set, give them space. Walking in front of someone during a heavy lift or dropping your gear right next to their station can break focus and potentially cause accidents.

2. Don’t coach unless you’re the coach. Offering unsolicited advice, even with good intentions, can come off as intrusive. Let our coaches do the coaching, and save your tips for when someone asks.

3. Be mindful of the whiteboard. Whether it’s before class or post-WOD, don’t block the view or stand right in front of it during explanations. Everyone’s trying to follow along and get set up.

4. Keep your stuff tidy. Shoes, bags, if it’s not in use, stash it in the cubbies or out of the way. This keeps the floor clear and safe for everyone moving around.

5. Encourage others, but read the room. Cheering someone on during their last reps can be motivating, but not everyone wants the spotlight. Get to know your gym community and support people in a way that suits them.

At the end of the day, gym etiquette is all about awareness and respect. Showing up, working hard, and helping create a space where everyone can thrive. Whether you’re brand new or a seasoned member, keeping these lesser-known rules in mind makes the gym better for all of us.
